Summary: Queen Amidala recieves a gift.
Author's Note:  betareject requested Padmé/young!Palpatine.

Fingers trail over her desk as he speaks, she lifts her chin; a calm stare betrays nothing as her nails dig into the softness of her throne.

“For you, Your Majesty,” it is a lacquered box.

A heart thuds in vain against elaborate garments: “Thank you.” What could he have…?

A miniature portrait – no bigger than her thumbnail – her with a blaster and the dress of a handmaiden. The tiny girl is still, frozen forever in her martial pose; delicate colours awash with fire. He lowers his eyes.

“Who was the artist?”

He smiles, a flush creeping above his collar.

O.M.G. WOW. I really love how you portray this powerplay. At first I just thought he was playing her like a fiddle (maybe he is?) but upon realizing that he's the artist in question I knew there was more to it than meets the eye.

There are so many ways to capture a heart without going to such detail and effort. I can't help but wonder if he realizes the effect she has on him or if he still believes its truly one big game that he has mastered...

Oh. Oh wow, thank you! I don't know if I could continue this per se, but more drabbles may be possible.

I can't help but wonder if he realizes the effect she has on him or if he still believes its truly one big game that he has mastered...

The interesting thing here is that he's "the artist" of what happened to Amidala, created the situation. I chose a miniature because it emphasises how he thinks about her - this brave, passionate being - but much smaller than him, under his control. But he's also in love with her in this drabble (and younger), and that's colouring his reactions. I had real fun with your prompt!! ^_^

Oh wow, this was beautifully well written, and now, for some weird reason, I can see him having this private collection of small tiny paintings hidden in his desk drawer or something. I can also see him doing this so well, it fits him to express his feelings through something he made and not take verbal credit for it.

A charming little hypethetical scenario. :) The image of the girl frozen forever was rather saddening in that it makes one think of the fleeting nature of time, but I love the telling blush at the end!

Thanks. It's not often I can get away with making Palpatine cute! The frozen handmaiden was, I think, what Padme really loses when she "grows up". She really was her best in Ep I, to my mind.
