Here's my first piece of art for one of my favourite pairings: Voldemort/Harry. It's called Things Unsaid. I'm usually all about faces (as you will see below), so I wanted to try to tell a story with just bodies for a change. The colouring of this was absolutely ruined by scanning. Voldemort's pearly skin is too subtle for the scanner!

Below are three individual sketches that eventually turned the Harry Potter/Leo Tolstoy image pictured on the right, which I did for the [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_elite "fandom mash-up" + Love and War themed challenge (tied for third place!).

On the left we have our hero, Prince Potsky. Pictured on the field of battle (with Prince Andrei's uniform from the film version of War and Peace). On the right is the villain, Prince Voldemov, who is pictured here with his particularly fine duelling pistol, which some call "The Death Stick". Dark Mark detail on his signet ring. This was based on an image of Ralph Fiennes in Onegin.

And finally we have Countess Lestrange, Ginevra Weslei and her brother Captain Weslei and his fiancee Lady Grangevna (I suck at faux-Russian names, lol).  I'm very pround of Ron here - he took ages to draw.

beautiful art!!!!

You always have such expression with art. The first one with Harry and Voldemort, wow!

If you don't mind me asking, where do you have Children of Set posted? I would love to rec it in my journal!

Thank you! :D I just wish you could see the colouring of the one in my sketchbook.

I haven't posted it anywhere yet. It's for a competition and its been a week and they haven't even hung the entries out for voting yet! I'm actually getting rather frustrated with the lag, since I can't post it in my own journal or anywhere else until the competition ends. :(

The colors come out great even on lj! I can imagine how luminous it must look in rl, like your default icon.

I understand!
Oh, I don't like those kind of delays either!
But you ought to win with that brilliant fic!

This one isn't by me, but I love, love, love it - it's a print by WednesdayWolf over on etsy.com:

I'm saving up for it. I love colour so much (as you can see from my lj!)

I would love to see Wednesday Wolf illustrate Lovecraft.

Your lj is lovely! Love the piccie of Palpatine at top!

Oh, absolutely - his stuff is amazing! I love his watery, vibrant crazy illustrations. He'd do a wonderful Cthulhu.

Haha - thanks. I remember when I first changed to this layout and everyone was like OMG WUT PINK?-! I thought Palpatine would appreciate the deceptive softness of the girly prettiness. After all, we're talking about the Dark Lord who wore cute little floral buttons (presumably for the lolz).

A luminescent Cthulhu!!!

I think your colors would go with Palpatine quite well :)
Especially the little floral buttons. Hmm, I'm thinking clear glass buttons that have an actual tiny flower in each one.

That would be very cute! I think they're more like burnished gold flowers - like something a six year old would have on a necklace:
http://www.padawansguide.com/others/1_palpy2.jpg

Only Palpatine could get away with wearing something like that! Then again, I suppose he had to make an effort as Amidala's senator. One could almost believe he's parodying Naboo fashion, considering his own completely different style which comes out in AotC and RotS (as a child, he always wanted to be a handmaiden: http://www.rebelshaven.com/SWFFAQ/images/handmaidens/funeral2.jpg

P's Mother: I'm sorry, sweetie, boys can't be handmaidens...

P: Then I'll be Chancellor and make it so boys can!"

P's Mother: Aww... isn't he cute?

Oh, yes! I find him incrediably sexy there!!!!

Hah hah!! Yes, the styles intrigued him!

BTW, I found out, and I can't remember where it was that around the 1900s pink was considered a boy's color, and light blue was a girl's? Pink because it was the more aggressive red mixed with white.

:D

Goodness you really ought to stop complimenting me, my head will swell far to big! (actually, that's a lie, I have a very small head, hands and feet - so much so it's hard to find hat, shoe and glove sizes to fit - so a bit of swelling would actually help! LOL)

It's especially annoying since they have more challenges up and I feel less inclined to participate in them if I don't have closure on the last one, you know?

I am blown away by these -- the skin thing can be a nuisance when scanning, yes, but overall the entire batch of work looks great. A naive comment: it looks like them! And the Tolstoy xover is a remarkable bit of imagination. Was this pencils or watercolor pencils or ...

Goodness, thank you (and yay, the naked!Anakin icon is back)! It was fun drawing the Harry Potter characters in Napoleonic/Regency costumes - especially Harry and Ron, who got dress cavalry uniforms. There's actually an alternate which has Bellatrix in a shako and V in a greatcoat, but I couldn't get that one to work.

Pencils, watercolour pencils, saliva, and chalk (don't ask about the saliva. ;D)

Voldemort/Harry? Well, I suppose it's no worse than Palpakin. :D

Lovely, lovely artwork and you've obviously put a lot of thought into it too.

Actually, I think Palpakin makes a whole lot more sense than Voldemort/Harry (they at least, you know, were friends). I like Voldemort/Harry though, because when it's well written, it can be incredibly dark and intense.

Thank you! :)

LOL I was referring to the ick factor. It certainly makes less sense as canonically, the only thing Voldemort wants to do to Harry is kill him.
But, as I've always said, we're all entitled to our ships. :D

Scanners are wicked like that. Grr. But at least I have one and I don't have to scan in erotic fan art at the library or uni any more! ;D

*snuggles* Dangit, the appropriate icon is on my other account! I swear I would never ever kill you in your sleep or throw you into any kind of pit :D

LOL I can imagine that might be awkward if there are nosy people around trying to see what you're scanning. Or if you have to like... save it on whatever computer the scanner's hooked up to first? Glad you got your own!

*preens* Masterrrrrr I wrote a little something for the swficchallenge prompt! (don't get too excited, it's not much, but it's something finally)

I really should have looked at this delightful art before! They are all wonderful, but the first one--oh, the first! How emotive it is, how saturated with pain and longing, and how fantastically luminous Voldemort is! He's perfect, absolutely perfect, and his glowing white skin reminds me so much of The cave incident/love accident and its eldritch, yearning dark lord! And I really do thing he is entrancingly beautiful here, so spare and elegant in his nakedness.

I'm particularly fond of how you've hidden their faces. The technique really isolates them both, heightens their mystery, their agony and complicity. That Harry hides his face entirely isolates him from his partner as well, yet Voldemort refuses to be shut out, and turns his face down to him. Of course, that Harry's face, his identity, is entirely cloaked in darkness is very symbolically powerful.

A wonderful, gorgeous portrait!

The first one is more of what I'd call a fully-fledged piece. The rest are sketches that took a couple of hours at most.

It was definitely inspired by the Voldemort of The Cave Incident and The Love Accident. I wanted very much to show the pearly, stark beauty we find there. It's wonderful for me that you totally get the... the bibliography of this piece. I definitely tried to express that longing, so I'm so pleased you saw that there. Thank you! :)

It was much easier than I thought it would be to hide their faces. So much of that comes from the idea that their connection is private and unavailable to an outsider. A mental, soul link. I'm not quite sure why I darkened Harry so much - I wasn't even aware of that until I finished. A lot of it was subconscious, bubbling up from the stew of Voldemort/Harry stories I've been reading.

*nods* I can see that. There's so much feeling and richness to the first one, while the others seem more fun and lighthearted.

A lot of it was subconscious, bubbling up from the stew of Voldemort/Harry stories I've been reading.

This certainly expresses the best of the genre.

Speaking of The Love Accident, what did you think of the most recent chapter? I was pleasantly surprised to see it remain strong and original (no physical transformations for Voldemort, hurrah!), with plenty of beautiful character development. I loved when Voldemort spat in Negura's face, breaking all of the wizarding taboos. I did think that the chapter was noticeably a bit rushed, though, which often happens whenever authors pay too much mind to their impatient readers. It could easily have been another few thousand words longer.
