Here's my first piece of art for one of my favourite pairings: Voldemort/Harry. It's called Things Unsaid. I'm usually all about faces (as you will see below), so I wanted to try to tell a story with just bodies for a change. The colouring of this was absolutely ruined by scanning. Voldemort's pearly skin is too subtle for the scanner!

Below are three individual sketches that eventually turned the Harry Potter/Leo Tolstoy image pictured on the right, which I did for the
hogwarts_elite "fandom mash-up" + Love and War themed challenge (tied for third place!).

On the left we have our hero, Prince Potsky. Pictured on the field of battle (with Prince Andrei's uniform from the film version of War and Peace). On the right is the villain, Prince Voldemov, who is pictured here with his particularly fine duelling pistol, which some call "The Death Stick". Dark Mark detail on his signet ring. This was based on an image of Ralph Fiennes in Onegin.

And finally we have Countess Lestrange, Ginevra Weslei and her brother Captain Weslei and his fiancee Lady Grangevna (I suck at faux-Russian names, lol). I'm very pround of Ron here - he took ages to draw.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you have Children of Set posted? I would love to rec it in my journal!

Date: 2011-09-25 01:04 pm (UTC)I haven't posted it anywhere yet. It's for a competition and its been a week and they haven't even hung the entries out for voting yet! I'm actually getting rather frustrated with the lag, since I can't post it in my own journal or anywhere else until the competition ends. :(

Oh, I don't like those kind of delays either!
But you ought to win with that brilliant fic!

Date: 2011-09-26 01:02 am (UTC)Haha - thanks. I remember when I first changed to this layout and everyone was like OMG WUT PINK?-! I thought Palpatine would appreciate the deceptive softness of the girly prettiness. After all, we're talking about the Dark Lord who wore cute little floral buttons (presumably for the lolz).

Especially the little floral buttons. Hmm, I'm thinking clear glass buttons that have an actual tiny flower in each one.

Only Palpatine could get away with wearing something like that! Then again, I suppose he had to make an effort as Amidala's senator. One could almost believe he's parodying Naboo fashion, considering his own completely different style which comes out in AotC and RotS (as a child, he always wanted to be a handmaiden: http://www.rebelshaven.com/SWFFAQ/images/handmaidens/funeral2.jpg
P's Mother: I'm sorry, sweetie, boys can't be handmaidens...
P: Then I'll be Chancellor and make it so boys can!"
P's Mother: Aww... isn't he cute?

Date: 2011-09-26 01:36 am (UTC)Hah hah!! Yes, the styles intrigued him!
BTW, I found out, and I can't remember where it was that around the 1900s pink was considered a boy's color, and light blue was a girl's? Pink because it was the more aggressive red mixed with white.

Date: 2011-09-25 11:29 pm (UTC)Goodness you really ought to stop complimenting me, my head will swell far to big! (actually, that's a lie, I have a very small head, hands and feet - so much so it's hard to find hat, shoe and glove sizes to fit - so a bit of swelling would actually help! LOL)
It's especially annoying since they have more challenges up and I feel less inclined to participate in them if I don't have closure on the last one, you know?

Scanners are wicked like that. Grr. But at least I have one and I don't have to scan in erotic fan art at the library or uni any more! ;D

Date: 2011-09-27 02:48 am (UTC)LOL I can imagine that might be awkward if there are nosy people around trying to see what you're scanning. Or if you have to like... save it on whatever computer the scanner's hooked up to first? Glad you got your own!
*preens* Masterrrrrr I wrote a little something for the swficchallenge prompt! (don't get too excited, it's not much, but it's something finally)

Date: 2011-10-21 07:35 am (UTC)I'm particularly fond of how you've hidden their faces. The technique really isolates them both, heightens their mystery, their agony and complicity. That Harry hides his face entirely isolates him from his partner as well, yet Voldemort refuses to be shut out, and turns his face down to him. Of course, that Harry's face, his identity, is entirely cloaked in darkness is very symbolically powerful.
A wonderful, gorgeous portrait!

Date: 2011-10-21 09:16 am (UTC)It was definitely inspired by the Voldemort of The Cave Incident and The Love Accident. I wanted very much to show the pearly, stark beauty we find there. It's wonderful for me that you totally get the... the bibliography of this piece. I definitely tried to express that longing, so I'm so pleased you saw that there. Thank you! :)
It was much easier than I thought it would be to hide their faces. So much of that comes from the idea that their connection is private and unavailable to an outsider. A mental, soul link. I'm not quite sure why I darkened Harry so much - I wasn't even aware of that until I finished. A lot of it was subconscious, bubbling up from the stew of Voldemort/Harry stories I've been reading.

Date: 2011-10-22 07:12 am (UTC)*nods* I can see that. There's so much feeling and richness to the first one, while the others seem more fun and lighthearted.

This certainly expresses the best of the genre.
Speaking of The Love Accident, what did you think of the most recent chapter? I was pleasantly surprised to see it remain strong and original (no physical transformations for Voldemort, hurrah!), with plenty of beautiful character development. I loved when Voldemort spat in Negura's face, breaking all of the wizarding taboos. I did think that the chapter was noticeably a bit rushed, though, which often happens whenever authors pay too much mind to their impatient readers. It could easily have been another few thousand words longer.
