I have to say when I first saw you posted this last night, I was hesitant to read it. Not that I didn't think you'd do the story justice, you definitely did, but because I still harbor faints hopes of writing my own sequel to "The Lovers' Wine."
I'm glad I did read it because this is absolutely fantastic. I loved the small hint of Palpatine humanity in his neediness for Anakin early in the story and then watching that progress to Palpatine's utter possession of Anakin's soul at the end. The story is a micro-version of the SW saga.
I also loved Padme's sage comments regarding power changing people. In this case, however, I think it was the powerful allure of sharing secrets with the Chancellor, being Palpatine's lover, that was the power that affected the changes in Anakin. Palpatine, I don't think, ever really changed with respect to power, he always craved it, believed he should have it, and simply set about achieving it. Anakin, however, has been slowly being seduced by power ever since he learned of his Force abilities and this relationship with Palpatine is just the culmination of that. It's a lovely irony that he thinks he possesses the Chancellor while it is truly the other way around.
(BTW, I never told Wendy that you asked to do a sequel to this, so I'm waiting for her squeeful discovery of this gem!!)
